The Inland Taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus) is considered to be the deadliest land snake. The Banded Sea krait has more potent venom - but spends almost all its life swimming in the oceans.

Snakes are not 'poisonous', but rather, venomous.

The Inland Taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus) is Australia's most venomous snake.

Also known as the Fierce Snake, it has the most toxic venom of all Australian snakes. The highest recorded venom yield is 110mg, enough to kill over 100 people or 250,000 mice.

It is restricted to the northeastern areas of South Australia, where human population is at a minimum.

The most aggressive snake is the Eastern Brown, which is found in abundance in populated areas of eastern Australia. It is highly venomous, and the second deadliest snake in Australia.

Yes, there are 8 of the worlds most venomous snakes in Austraila. But if you know what to do when you are attacked you won't die. But you got to be careful just incase it comes back for more.

Your first aid kit needs to include: (If you are Hiking)

  • Band Aids
  • non-sticky dressing
  • tweezers and a needle
  • anti- sting ointment or cream
  • aspirin or paracetamol
  • alcohol swabs, to clean the wound
  • wide elastic bandages
  • heavy crepe bandages
  • waterprorf adhesive tape, to secure dressing
  • Cotton wool buds
  • any medicane that is needed, just in case something happens

To aviod snakes:

  • When hiking as guide if the area has snakes
  • If you have no guide watch for signs say danger SNAKES
  • Stay very still if you have spotted one
  • don't try and kill the snake
  • never bring meat, just in case the snake can smell the food
  • Don't try and feed snakes
  • If the snake is far away and you have seen it just slowly back away
  • Sometimes snakes move away from foot vibrations, so stamping your feet is a good idea.

That is what you need to be aware of snakes while in Austraila!
