There is no way to answer this question, because the number of "satellite" tournaments (i.e., those pro events that count toward the ATP and WTA standings, but aren't typically televised - - except, possibly, on local networks - - much less known about by most tennis spectators) changes from year to year. For example, the Long Island, NY, "Hamlet Challenge" event - - a warm-up to the US Open attended by many top 100 players - - was cancelled a few years ago. Conversely, the "Fifth-Third Bank Tennis Championships" (http://www.lexingtonchallenger.com) is a small (i.e., "satellite"), pro tennis event, that hardly anyone outside of Lexington, KY, has ever heard of, and is rarely attended by any top 100 player. Yet, it is considered a legitimate warm-up to the US Open (or to one of the US Open's preceding tournaments), should any of the attending players get a wild card or similar entry to the US Open. The ATP and WTA websites rarely show such events on their calendar or websites, etc, and non-local media rarely covers such events, so it is often a matter of luck for a member of the general public to find them.

No. They used to play on grass. They then switched to clay. Then to hard courts. A trivia question is what did Jimmy Conners do that no one will probably ever do again? It's winning the US Open on grass, clay and hard courts.
