You can take the bus from Leuchars to St Andrews Town Centre in a few minutes.
Stagecoach Fife is the only bus from Edinburgh to St Andrews.

Have you thought about taking the train to Leuchars and then a taxi into town (approx 4 miles). Check the First Scotraill site for more info. The fare is £12.70 cheap day return and it only takes an hour from Waverly station.

It's about a 90minute drive or you can get the train. there isn't a station in St Andrews itself, the nearest station is Leuchars which is a couple of miles away. I think there's a bus from the station into the town.

Take a train from London Kings Cross to Leuchars (you may have to change trains in Edinburgh) and then take a bus to St Andrews.
You can't fly directly. It would have to be Sacramento to LA. LA to London. London to Edinburgh. Edinburgh to St Andrews by bus or train.
If you take a taxi, then about an hour and 20 minutes if there is no traffic. The taxi you can get straight from the airport. If you take a bus, though, you have to first take a bus into Edinburgh's city centre and then catch a bus from the main bus station in St. Andrews' square. Then the bus from Edinburgh to St. Andrews is is about 1 and 45 minutes more because it makes local stops and doesn't go on a very direct route. If you take the train, again you first have to take a bus into the city centre to Waverly Station. The train takes about an hour fifteen, but then you have to take a bus from Leuchar's train station to St. Andrews, which is another 20 minutes. There is no train station in St. Andrews.
