Many state governments have limitations on when studded tires or tire chains are allowed to be used, or are required. Contact your states' Department of Transportation for these guidelines.
Studded tires have small metal studs protruding from the rubber, which provides more traction. Snow chains, which wrap around the surface of normal tires, work even better, though they are a hassel to put on.

Honestly you can put up to size 13....no lie, obviously you wood have to jack the car up but with our lowering your civic 17s are best, u cood put 18s with low profile tires but it's best with 17s. Trust

Yes, as long as your existing tires are still being made. I personally have put different brand tires on the front and have had no problems. The sales people will be able to direct you to a comparable tire by size and tread design.
