Goods sent to someone (other than a trader) who has not asked for them to be sent. It is not in itself an offence to send unsolicited goods (except for matter describing human sexual techniques or advertisements for such matter), but it is a criminal offence to demand payment for them. The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 (SI 2000/2334) amended the Unsolicited Goods and Services Act 1971 and removed any rights of the sender in respect of unsolicited goods and services and any obligations on the consumer. As such, consumers can retain unsolicited goods or dispose of them as they wish. They are under no obligation to keep them safe or to return them. It is an offence to demand payment from consumers for unsolicited goods or services.
