It can be safe, but you should be warned and advised that you should limit the amount of time you wear contact lenses. My optometrist said that 6 hours should be the max. As a result of keeping contacts in for over 6 hours and wearing them longer than necessary, red veins can start popping up on the whites of your eye and you can have mucus-y discharge (all of this is from personal experience). I've also seen my acquaintances' eyes turn a light shade of yellow.

It doesn't hurt to take a shower with contact lenses in, unless you are in the habit of letting water run into your open eyes. If so, you'll probably lose the lenses. And I agree with the first comment, be sure to keep soap out of your eyes, that would be a very painful experience.

∙ 9y agoTaking a shower with contact lenses on is perfectly safe as long as one doesn't vigorously scrub their eyes. It is important, however, not to leave contact lenses in too long because they can irritate the eyes.
