4-5 years old! After that minor behavioral changes can occur but your personality is set. Keep in mind that it will develop as you age (you may be more reckless at 17 than 37) but if you were wilder than your friends as a teen then that will hold true into adulthood.

When scientists measure the ratio of unstable atoms to stable atoms in a sample of rock what are they trying to determine?

They are determining the age of the rocks. Radioactive elements decay over time, so the composition of a rock can indicate when that particular strata was formed.

Is carbon stable?

Carbon monoxide is quite stable, and is formed by the combustion of carbon in inadequate supply of oxygen.

What is carbons isotope?

There are 15 of known isotopes of carbons. However, only two of them are stable. They are carbon-12 (carbon "itself") and carbon-13. Carbon-14 is a radiactive isotope of carbon. It is used in determining the age of fossils, geologic, or archaeological specimens.

How many types of atoms have scientists found?

Counting only isotopes, and not ionic forms, there are over 1000 different nuclei for the 118 known elements. Most of these are unstable. Excluding bismuth, which is virtually stable, there are 80 stable elements and 254 stable nuclides out of 339 nuclides occurring naturally on Earth. Many more unstable nuclei have been created artificially, including all elements heavier than plutonium (94 protons). There are 80 elements with at least one isotope believed to be stable (assuming protons themselves are stable, which is uncertain; if they do decay, they do it VERY slowly). All isotopes of elements with Z>82 (more than the 82 protons in lead) are unstable, though bismuth-209 (Z = 83) might as well be stable: its half-life is considerably longer than the present age of the universe. The reason there are only 80 stable elements instead of 82 is that two lighter elements, technicium (Z=43) and promethium (Z=61), have no stable isotopes either.
