During World War 2 the axis powers started off with Germany when Britain and France declared war on Germany in 1939 and then Italy became Germany's ally as they thought Germany would win the war. Later in 1941 due to America's oil embargo on Japan, Japan desperatly attacked America's pacific fleet in Hawaii taking many islands in the pacific and also joining with the axis powers Germany and Italy. Towards the end of the war the Allies took Italy and hung their leader Mussalini upside down naked and then later Russia took Germany taking them out of the Axis powers only leaving Japan. Russia then took Japan's strong point Muchiria in China where they were getting all their scrap metal and America nuked them forcing them into surrender. The axis forces were then left with nothing.
The Axis forces of the Second World War was composed mainly of Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, and Fascist Italy. They signed a 3-way pact in September of 1940 (it was called the Tripartite Contract).
Germany, Japan, and Italy.
Not major "powers" of the axis but still axis allies were the countries of Finland, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, tiny San Marino. Even Iraq and India for a time fighting against Great Britain. India and Britain signing a treaty to agree to Indian sovereignty at the end of the second world war. There were also several "puppet states" these I would count though.
The main axis powers in World War II were Germany, Japan and Italy. The Axis Alliance, which existed from 1936 to 1945, was the result of the Tripartite Pact. The primary Axis powers were the Third Reich (Nazi Germany), the Empire of Japan, and the Kingdom of Italy. Other members of the Tripartite Pact beginning in 1940 were Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Yugoslavia. Thailand became an ally of Japan in 1942, thus joining the Axis powers. Finland did not sign the Tripartite Pact, but was Axis-aligned.
Others were a part of the Axis at various times, but the three principal component were, Germany, Italy and Japan.
