It is always songs that have simple rhythms and simple easy lyrics that stand out the most in our minds. Also when the radio over plays songs we often tend to get them stuck in our heads. That is my best explanation. It is always you songs you hate you remember the most because you hear them all the time or because they lyrics are so simple and catchy.

Because when you listen to music and listen to it again and again, your brain saves it on your mind causing yourself to sing it, hum it or even listen to it again. Listening to other music again and again will replace the older music you listened to and save the new one on your mind.

Don't just listen to it, Sing it at the top of your lungs! Unless you don't like it... Then listen to something you like and sing to that... but that will get the song you like stuck in your head...

I don't think there's an official name (or at least if there is I don't know what it is), but the most common term I've heard used to refer to them is "earworm".

The most effective way I've found to dislodge them is to replace them with something even more catchy. Repeat after me: "It's a small world after all ..." (in extreme cases, you may want to go to "This is the song that doesn't end, it just goes on and on my friend, some people started singing it not knowing what it was, and they'll continue singing it forever just because this is the song that doesn't end ...").
