The answer really depends on what type of silver that you are asking about. Silver rings and jewelry will almost never need cleaning other than a basic ultrasonic cleaning if it is worn every day. Sterling silver jewelry that is worn often will never tarnish. However, if the jewelry tarnishes it can be polished using a silver polishing cloth that can be purchased at almost any grocery or department store. After polishing the items place them in a bowl of windex and then rinse them under warm water.

Please note that nothing can replace the type of cleaning that you would receive when taking the items to a professional jeweler. When doing this, a jeweler can use a polishing wheel with jeweler's rouge to remove all the scratches while making the jewelry look brand new.
