The black death (the plague) could be passed on by either an infected person or fleas on animals such as rats. Due to the awful insanity in those days, rats were incredibly common.
The wild black rat was the main carrier, but the Plague could be passed from an infected person to healthy one as well.

after getting infected by Black Death. People got bloody vomit fever and tumors followed by death.
The Black Death was occured by bacteria that was disturded so then past on to fleas then the rats then the fleas and when the infected fleas bit a human it was all over for the infected person.
There were three strains of the Black Death. The bubonic strain, that infected ones skin and pores. It would cause large boils. This was the most common strain. As far as I know, you cannot catch it from contact. You could however, catch it from an infected flea that came from their person. There was also the septic strain, that infected the blood, and could be passed via transfer of fluids. And lastly, the pneumonic strain, that infected the lungs. This was contagious.
