This can be caused by a range of things both serious and non-serious. It can range from simple local damage or polyps to one of the cancers such as cervical or ovarian. It may not be serious, but don't make the mistake of doing nothing for this reason. Get it checked out.

∙ 12y agoIt's probably nothing serious considering it's brown. Brown blood is only old blood, which means your uterus and vagina are simply cleaning out waste. If you had sex before your period it could be an early period. Spotting in pregnancy doesn't occur until you're a few weeks at least.
