Hindus beginning to challenge traditional Hindu paths to spiritual enlightenment.
Buddhism was spread it three basic methods. The first was that The Buddha sent his monks out into surrounding villages to beg for their lunchtime meal. In return for a meal they would give a teaching to the people on the Buddha's teachings. As Buddhism acquired more adherents, some of whom were merchants and traders, they would spread The Buddha's teachings to the areas in which they traveled. Lastly as Buddhism spread, Buddhist built monasteries. People interested in The Buddha's teachings would come from other areas to learn and then bring the teachings home with them when they completed training.
