Yes it can undergo a substitution reaction, however conditions have to be just right. if there is a very limited amount of Bromine available OR it is at very high temperatures > 400 C. This will allow for a bromide radical to take the place of a Hydrogen atom on either side of the ethane molecule forming trans- 1,2-dibromoethane (primarily) with some of the cis form of the same molecule.

Typically this is an addition reaction across the double bond of an ethene molecule resulting in the same products.

Is it true or false that mutations that result from the substitution of the nitrogen base for another are called deletions?

False. Mutations that result from the substitution of one nitrogen base for another are called substitutions, not deletions. Deletions involve the removal of one or more bases from the DNA sequence.

Why is nitric acid added before silver nitrate to test for bromine?

Nitric acid is added before silver nitrate in the bromine test to oxidize any interfering substances that could react with silver nitrate. This helps to prevent false positive results and ensures that the precipitation reaction with silver nitrate is due to the presence of bromide ions.

Do enzymes affect the thermodynamics of a reaction true or false?

False. Enzymes do not affect the thermodynamics of a reaction. They only lower the activation energy required for the reaction to proceed, thereby increasing the rate of the reaction without changing the equilibrium constant or overall energetics of the reaction.
