As far as is known, the father of the Roman Emperor Tiberius Julius Caesar, who was known as Tiberius Claudius Nero, died of "natural causes". This means that he was not murdered nor did he die by an accident. Since the Emperor Tiberius was adopted by the Emperor Augustus, Augustus could also be considered to be his father. It has been alleged, but not proven, that Augustus was poisoned by his wife Livia.

Caligula was the next emperor, but he became mentally ill shortly afterward and was an even worse emperor than Tiberius. However, since he generally limited his excesses and atrocities to the higher families of Rome and provided great entertainment to the people, he was actually well liked by the plebeians
