in order for granite to float on water, it has to be lighter than water. because if its heavier than water, it will not float!

Granite can float on water due to it's volcanic origins. There are some places that sell fountains with a ball of granite floating on top of the fountain.

No. Granite will sink like just about any other rock. Pumice is the only rock that floats.
