A 1981 Camaro starter should only have two wires. One cable directly from the battery and one purple wire directly from the ignition switch.

I do not have a diagram of a 1981 Camaro with the 3.8 V6 engine. My link only goes back as far as 1982 and the Camaro had no 3.8 installed that year.
