Yes.

The combination of an opiate/analgesic and an anti-inflammatory (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug, or NSAID) is very commonly prescribed by many doctors. Most pain meds are prescribed with some type of NSAID or other anti-inflammatory, or the drug itself may be a combination drug that has an inflammation reducer in it - Tylenol 3 is such a drug, as is Percocet, Vicoprofen, Fioricet, etc.

NSAID's like Celebrex are prescribed typically when the pain is being caused by an injury or for post-op situations where tissue inflammation needs more than just a mild inflammation reduction agent to keep swelling to a minimum. Another similar drug is Naprosyn (Naproxen is the generic - Aleve is the OTC equivalent).

Dear Requester,

Celebrex is a Cox-2 inhibitor. It is an analgesic and an anti inflammatory at the same time. In the other hand, Tramadol is a strong sedative and pain reliever and it is classified as a controlled medication in certain countries, due to its potential to use dependence. Taking both drugs together is not fully safe (100%) as it is known that Celebrex might decrease the clearance of Tramadol from the body. Therefore, using such combination should be avoided and only used under a direct supervision of a licensed physician.
