Yes, there are some Spiders in the Southern USA that will bite people. The Brown Recluse spider is probably the best known for its venom. It won't actually attack people, but it will get into your house and hide in places you don't expect, like shoes and showers, and when threatened will bite. Although small in size, the venom causes a paralysis and eventual rigamortis of the flesh. This can be hugely toxic if not treated as soon as possible.
