The head gasket is used to seal between the engine cylinder head and the engine block
The same place as any other engine. Between the cylinder head (hence the name ) and the cylinder block. This is of course assuming the engine is correctly assembled.

On a Ford 4.0 liter EFI , V6 engine ( Over Head Valve / pushrod design ) There are ( 3 ) on each side of the engine block ( I assume there is 1 or 2 on the rear of the engine block , where the transmission bolts to the engine ) I believe that each cylinder head has 1 on the front and 1 on the rear )
