Putting aside the chipset, the CPU (central processing unit) is one of the most important components in a computer, as it's where most calculations take place. It can be likened to the brain of the system. Like a car without an engine, a computer without a CPU will not operate as intended. You cannot expect anything useful out of a PC without a CPU and a chipset.
