If a defective ignition module, (or bad plugs/ wires) causes a misfire condition, one or more plugs won't fire. The uneven power pulses cause engine shaking.
The 1990 Chevy Celebrity engine is distributorless, the ignition is handled by a combination of the engine control module(computer) and the ignition control module. You did not mention which engine the car has. If your car has the 4 cylinder engine the ignition control module is below the intake manifold at the rear of the engine. You can follow the spark plug wires to it. The coils are mounted to the ignition control module. If your car has the V6 the ignition control module is near the starter and again you can follow the spark plug wires to it. Again the coils are mounted to the ignition control module.
The ignition module will send a signal when the key is turned. If the module is no good the signal is not sent to the other ignition parts, thus not allowing the car to start
The ignition module on a 2002 Impala is located in part of the electrical system. In some cars, the module kept the car from starting. When the key was turned there would not be a clicking noise. The module works with the passlock system of the car.
Possibly
AnswerThe ignition module is mounted to the front of the distributor. It is a long rectangular piece (about 1"x4") with wires connected to one side. Yes the Ignition module is rectangular piece (about 1"x4) with wire harness connected to it, but some Ford Contour does not have distributor, they have coil park, and some of this car have their ignition module built in the PCM. Year, Make, Model, and Engine size makes a different.
sounds like you need a tune-up
coil, wire, ignition control module
Which engine does your car have?
Without year make model & engine size you get a guess. Ignition module, coil, distributor
