Is a certified nurses assistant and medical assistant the same thing?

A Medical Assistant cannot refer herself as being a nurse, since they are two different titles (a nurse would be an RN, LPN or a Practical Nurse). Many doctors refer to their Medical Assistants as nurses but they are incorrect in doing so.

∙ 14y agoAnswer: No there is a big difference. A CNA first of all has only so many weeks of training and their training is mainly to help the nurse. A MA goes to school for up to 2 years. They are trained in many different fields from passing out meds to minor surgery and all the clerical work. There is no such thing as an assistant nurse. There are CNA's and assistive hospital personel. CNA stands for Certified Nurse Assistant. Though these people are not nurses they do aide nurses a great deal. They have a few months of training and a certificate to do the job that they do. With out these people nurses would have too much work to do, so RN's are respectful of them.
