That would be a very bad idea. The notary should be an objective third party to this matter.

A spouse would be considered an interested party - especially if the attorney in fact did not keep good records or wasted assets. Her notarizing the POA may make it vulnerable.

Can a notary in fl notarize for a nephew?

It is not prohibited by law. Florida law specifies that a notary may not notarize the signature of their parents, spouse, or children. The law is silent on siblings. However, it is probably not advised, and if you choose to notarize a sibling's signature, particularly if they have the same last name as you, you might want to add a statement to the certificate such as: "The person whose signature is being notarized is not my spouse, mother, father, son, or daughter, whose signatures I would be prohibited from notarizing per F.S. 117.107(11)". This will clarify that the signature you are notarizing is NOT that of your parent, child, or spouse.

Could a spouse cash a husbands auto insurance check for repairs?

No. The check must be endorsed by whomever the check is made out to. This will be the insured on the policy. If the spouse was not the named insured on the policy then she cannot legally endorse the check unless he gives her power of attorney or if he is deceased and she is designated as administrator of the estate by the court.
