Well, the average earring gauge is 18g and the average lip gauge is 14g-16g so I wouldn't suggest using an earring for your lip because it'd look pretty funny in my opinion.

Go to a professional or you could seriously damage your face. I wouldn't recommend it, but it can be done. Three years ago, I actually did, and it turned out great. I still have it to this day. Since you wouldn't be using a sterile, brand new needle, you need to make sure that you clean the earring as best as you can. Rubbing alcohol, a lighter, and boiling water will do the trick. Also make sure you know that you won't have an allergic reaction to the earring. A piercing earring would be the best choice.
