No element's atom can be separated by a physical process. In fact, not even a chemical process can do it. You would need a nuclear process, like radioactive decay, to split up an atom.

Elements cannot be split except by extraordinary means. For example, the atomic bomb splits atoms. Also, particle accelerators (eg., the Large Hadron Collider) smash atoms.
