Yes, and it can break and for sure will wear out the bearings in the alternator.
I do not believe they do. An overtightened timing belt will just be noisy. Kind of like a squeeky belt.
More than likely incorrectly aligned or buckled pulley or overtightened or seized pully
Why do my new ribbed belt break on my 97 land cruiser? Pulleys and alternator are new.
Two reasons why your alternator belt is breaking is: Your alternator belt is too tight, or you are using a belt that is old and worn. I cannot answer your question fully without seeing the vehicle. Sorry.
One of your pulleys is out of alignment or the bearings are going out. Sometimes if the belt is way overtightened it will jump off from metal brackets bending. The fault is the centrifugal alternator pulley.Buy a new pulley or the easier way is to fit a new alternator, the pulley is very hard to change.
alternator drive belt?
Loosen the alternator tensioner bolt. The alternator belt will become loose. Remove the alternator belt. Put the new alternator belt on and reverse the process.
Just as long as it does not break. Could be 1 mile or 1,000 miles. Replace the belt ASAP.
Yes, I know of no engine where the alternator is driven by the cam belt. The alternator is driven by a drive belt or serpentine belt.
If the alternator belt is the same belt as the other accessories, yes.
Begin by removing the alternator tensioner bolt. Slide the alternator to the left. Remove the alternator belt. Reverse the process to install the new alternator belt.
The alternator belt on a 1994 Eclipse is replaced by loosening the alternator bolts, moving the alternator downward, and slipping the belt off. A new belt is then routed around the other accessories, placed on the alternator, and the bolts tightened.
