Honey bees may go out in very light rain, if it is warm enough, but they won't fly in heavy rain. They are also good at forecasting the weather. I have noticed no bees flying from my hives and wondered why not because the weather was fine -- and a short time later it was raining.

Imagine what it would be like if you were the size of a honey bee and were hit by a raindrop!

It seems like a farely logical answer to me. Bees cannot fly when their wings are wet, for the same reason birds cannot. If their wings become wet they aren't able to be used. The water would weigh them down making them difficult to use.

Bees can fly in the rain if needed. However, bees will head back to the hive or find shelter in the rain. They do not like to venture out in the rain or cooler temperatures.

No. In fact, bees won't fly in rain at all if they can help it.

They will be able to fly, but never make it back inside. They're wings get too wet, like paper, and they get heavier.
