I have a pet budgie and mine wont eat anything but seeds but i have had budgies in the past and they will eat very small nuts. they are small birds so dont give your bird a bigger nut that a macaw would eat.

For budgies and parrots, feeding all seeds to them means giving your birds fast-food all the time. It fills them up but doesn't give nutritions. Therefore I hardly recommend you to feed your birds 80% of their diet PELLETS instead of just seeds.

It would take a very long time for a budgie to chew through a walnut shell, but he or she might enjoy the challenge. However, if you would like to give your budgie a treat, you can give him or her a piece of shelled walnut. It should be a very small piece because walnuts, while nutritious, are also very fattening.

They can do, but it is not advised that you give your budgie more than 1 walnut every few days.

Walnuts contain omega-3, a polysaturated fat. Although the amount of omega-3 in walnuts is little to a human, it is a lot to a budgie as they are smaller than humans. therefore they should only be given as the occasional treat, rather than being part of its everyday diet.

Walnuts with the shell on will provide a bit of entertainment and puzzle-solving for your budgie as it attempts to work out how to get to the nut inside the shell.

Yes. Although I'm unsure if there are any nuts that a cockatiel cannot have, I know the following are okay (unsalted) when crushed or chopped to appropriate size:

  • Almonds
  • Macadamia
  • Walnut
  • Coconut
  • Pistachio
  • Pine Nut
  • Pecan
  • Brazil Nut
  • Cashew
  • Filbert

Although not a nut, unsalted peanuts are good, too.

I remember my grandpa's also loved dried cranberries.
