Yes, as a treat apples are fine for chickens. Some will say it is best not to feed them too many apples as the seed of an apple has a small amount of arsenic in it. I have an orchard on my property and in the fall, the chickens run there first thing in the morning. Never had a chicken drop dead under an apple tree. They go for the insects on the fallen apples first but soon start eating the apples. We don't get to make much cider around here since a flock of 50 chickens can clean up a nights worth of "grounders" pretty quick.

What will happen if you fed your chickens a few apple cores with seeds?

My chickens love apple cores with seeds. In fact, my fenced in chicken run is also my orchard. To reduce the number of insects attracted to felled fruit, and to clean up the fruit that does fall, I put my chickens to work. They will eat any and all the fruit and it benefits them nutritionally. If you are concerned about arsenic in apple seeds, consider that there is arsenic naturally in the ground, and because of that there is arsenic in the plants raised in that soil.
