Yes, don't listen to him he's an idiot. I have crossbreeded a Black Convict Cichlid and a African Spotted Leaf Fish. Sadly, the young died from being killed by the alpha male of the tank, Goliath the male Jack Dempsey. They got in a fight and goliath ended up winning and breaking the jaw of the Black Convict and she almost died but I nursed her back to health. Goliath then killed the leaf fish when the convict couldn't help fight. But back on track, you can breed any fish of the similar size color or aggressiveness. But you have to be careful that the young don't have deformities! Good luck!
Oscars are cichlids! They are from the South American group of cichlids. Fish can mate only within the same species. Oscars can only mate with other Oscars.
Different Africans use different methods and require different conditions in order to breed. Please state what species you are trying to breed. Most are quite easy.
There are 156 species of chidlids but 69 of the species are endangered :D
There are two distinct species both of which are called Zebra Cichlids. One species is from Malawi in Africa and a type of Pseudotropus that comes in many different colours, and the other is from Tropical South America and is a member of the Cichlasoma family. These two different species can not be interbred.
Parrot Cichlids are carnivores. I believe they are produced in a Laboratory by some Chinese scientists who artificially fertilise one species of Amazon cichlids eggs with the sperm from a different species. They are not accepted as a species by most Scientists and do not have a proper Taxonomic name.
The fish species of Malawi Cichlids can be found in Lake Malawi on the African continent. It is a large lake that contains many different environments and spans over three countries: Malawi, Tanzania and Mozambique.
