From everything I've researched so far it looks like it's okay to give it to them as a treat. We've tried it on 2 hamsters. The first one pushed it away and the second one will wake up out of a dead sleep to find it when we put it near the cage.
A hamster couldn't eat a whole coconut, as it's much too big, but as far as I can tell, small pieces of coconut are perfectly fine to feed to hamsters as a treat.
Other people say that coconut is not healthy for hamsters, so, if you are going to feed your hamster coconut, it'd be best to do so in very small amounts.
