One big difference would be that children are not little adults so when you are explaining things to them or just talking to them you need to use words they can understand, you need to avoid language and topics they shouldn't hear and you should get on their level when speaking to them when ever possible rather than constantly talking down to them. Don't assume just because you think something is obvious that the child will also find it obvious as well.
