Identical twins can be different genders. ’Gender’ is referring to what you identify as. Being identical twins has no bearing on your gender. What is rare for identical twins to be, is different sexes.

I plead all of you to understand the difference between gender and sex. Stop throwing the term ‘gender’ around without thinking about it.

Monozygotic (Identical) twins are always of the same gender, except in extremely rare cases of chromosomal defect.

Can identical twins be of different sexes?

They can be. While identical twins always have to be the same gender, fraternal twins usually are not. However this is not always the case. Identical twins occur because they inhabit the same egg. Fraternal twins because two eggs were fertilized at the same time. So fraternal twins could be the same gender, but usually they are of the opposite gender.

Why are some twins identical and some not?

The reason why some twins are identical and some are not starts in utero. Identical twins occur when one egg is fertilized and it splits to create two embryos. Nonidentical twins come from different fertilized eggs.

How identical twins can be different when they have the same DNA?

Because they separated into separate beings early in the cell division process. After that, a quadrillion factors are involved in the minuscule differences all along the development process. This is how they become different people.

Is the DNA in twins the same?

if they share 1 heart then yes they do. but if they have different hearts then they do not

Do identical twins have identical brains?

No they do not. Identical twins have identical DNA structure, and therefore they have very similar cell structure, leading them to have vastly similar organs (same size, health issues, etc.). However, everyone, even identical twins, do not share the exact same organs. Some identical twins get migraines, while the other doesn't. In some cases, one twin will be homosexual and the other heterosexual. In any case, by nature, identical twins do not have identical brains, and by nurture they experience different things, learn different things, and process information in different ways, resulting in the twins having differing opinions, etc. No two brains are exactly alike.

Do identical twins with opposite genders exist?

Yes, it's possible for a mutation in the chromosome to produce otherwise-identical twins with opposite genders. But generally no, identical twins have the same gender. (but fraternal twins have different genders just as often as any siblings)

Why can fraternal twins different genders but identical are always the same gender?

fraternal twins have two different chromosomes

Why can fraternal twins be different genders but identical twins are are the same gender?

Identical Twins are the result of a single fertilized egg spliting in two producing two genetically identical children. Fraternal twins are the result of the mother producing two eggs each fertilized by a different sperm from the father. This can result in opposite sex twins.

Non-identical twins can be both boys both girls or boy and girl why?

because fraternal twins (non-identical) are just like any other siblings. Their genders have no connection with each other.

Who are clones fraternal twins or identical twins?

Identical twins, due to the fact that the one fertilized egg splits, have identical DNA. Fraternal twins, since they are from separate eggs, have different DNA.

Do conjoined twins have the same sex?

Yes. Conjoined twins are always identical (monozygotic) twins, and identical twins are always the same sex. There is a theoretical case where identical twins could be opposite genders, when the babies are female but in one of the females, a branch of one X chromosome breaks away; however, I don't believe this has ever been observed.

Are paternal twins identical?

I dont think there is such a thing as paternal twins...perhaps you are thinking of fraternal twins. In that case, they are not identical twins, they do not look the same and they can be different sexes.

Why wont the babies look the same if identical twins have babies with identical twins?

Because the mother identical twins each have a different husband . . . half of his characteristics show up in their babies.

Are twins born with different DNA?

Yes EVERYBODY has different DNA even if you are identical twins.

Do identical twins develop from two different eggs that are fertilized by different sperm?

No, fraternal twins do.
