No... infact the invention and utilization of primitive gunpowder by the Chinese and later used as artillery bombardments by the Arabs actually brought the age of knights and the crusades to an end after the fall of Byzantine Empire. Gunpowder is formed from collective agents used as an explosive (physically much of the force potential is wasted through the actual mechanisms of black powder and more refined uses of gunpowder were needed), but this force potential adding to the relative durability to armor is far greater. By being able to fire in both great distances and use the advantage of black smoke to confuse what was then a relatively close counter combat, gunpowder revolutionized how fortified castles could be brought down and how soldiers did not need to train all their lives for combat, such as knights did (thus having a limited amount of knights) and being able to train well prepared militias quickly to counter surging chargers brought the era of knights to an end. Yah for history and Physics!
Metal armor (plate armor) was not invented in medieval age, it was already used by ancient greeks and romans. Metal armor allowed knights to be stronger.

First armor was out of animal leather coats - same time the fire was invented.
One form of medieval armor was called "chainmail." "Mail" was a term for armor or protection. Chain mail was made up of small metal links chained together, rather than of sheet metal, so it would be easy to move in it.
A stone wall, a moat, and a knight's armor are all related medieval warfare, although a stone wall could also have uses not related to war.

Very simple. Bullets and gunpowder changed war and made armor usless.
