mud daubers are predators.Black and yellow mud daubers primarily prey on relatively small, colorful Spiders, such as crab spiders (and related groups), orb weavers and some jumping spiders. They usually find them in and around vegetation. Blue mud daubers are the main predator of the black and brown widow spiders. To capture a spider, the wasp grabs it and stings it into submission. The venom from the sting does not kill the spider, but paralyzes and preserves it so it can be transported and stored in the nest cell until consumed by the larva. [So no , it doesn't kill humans]
Yes Mud Daubers can sting...they rarely sting though unless really provoked. Unlike other colony wasps and hornets, they're not real aggressive, so they normally don't...but they can...

No they do not.
I have been stung by a mud dauber and a yellow jacket. The mud dauber sting is more like a needle prick than a sting. The yellow jacket sting hurt a lot worse... I would think, based on my own reaction, that the venom is different.

There are actually several different things you can use to treat a mud dauber sting or bite. You can use baking soda to draw the poison out or you can place wet tobacco over it to stop the burning sensation.
Get a knife and gently remove it from mud.
Mud daubers are solitary wasps, so it is very unlikely that they will sting you (unless you do something like trap one in your hand). Unlike hornets and yellow jackets, mud daubers do not defend their nests.

The mud dauber nest is one of the most complex insect nests in existence. It only takes 3 weeks to build a mud dauber nest, fill it with food, and lay the eggs that will hatch in the spring.
