Assalama Alaykum. Quail has been mentioned in the Holy Qur'an in several places
and foods permisable not permissible. Also, Prophetic traditions explained the whole aspect of what's lawful & unlawful in nutshell:
1. That's all creatures that live under water is lawful.
2. All animals except Horses,Donkeys,Zebra,Pigs,those with fangs,sacrifices for other religion,died by itself,fell from cliff,eaten by other animals, other gods' names were invoked in slaughter and the strangled one.
3.All birds are lawful except those that survive with human faeces, bats etc......
