The Mayo Clinic says no.
The only type of herpes that I know of that can kill some one is enchephilitis. Herpes zooster is the virus that causes chicken pox and shingles.

∙ 10y agoChickenpox rarely can be deadly. It is most dangerous to adolescents and adults, as well as those with severe immunocompromise, but may of the deaths occur in previously healthy people. Shingles deaths are even more rare, and occur only in those with severe immunocompromise.
