Most places from ford to the internet say to enter your vehicle like usual to disarm it...most cases (like mine) that just don't work, i went into ford and got a girl to come over and reprogram my keys...still nothing so i inquired about diabling the pats system, according to her (diesel tech at ford) ford can do this but i didnt hear it from her""...but now when i goto the service desk (different tech) and ask about it, its impossible for them to accomplish....i feel like their not telling me everything. i know its possible. the vehicles computer and pats modual work together (with out a pats modual your vehicle will not fire) however there are shops out there with the equipment that can reprogram your computer to ignor pats. the only concern here is if the factory keyless entry and keypad on door will continue to work (controled via pats modual)
How do you override the anti-theft system on a 1996 Ford Mustang?
If you are talikng about the PATS(passive Anti-Theft System), you don't. That system is intregrated into the vehicle's computer system. When you start the car, the PCM looks for the PATS module that reads the chip inside the key, to either give the okie dokie, or saying "no-go," and the PCM takes appropriate action. If there is a problem with it, I am afraid you are stuck repairing it, or switching out the PCM for one that is not equipped with PATS, and therefore doesn't look for a PATS module signal.
