If you do that you can increase accuracy of your reading, but the scale may be such so that its accuracy is not increased due to its manufacture. For example if a wood ruler is marked in millimeters it may only be accurate to a n millimeter by design so breaking it into tenths of millimeter may not be significant. As an another example suppose t you have weight scale and measure 50 .1 kg its design tolerance may be such that its balance springs are only accurate to 0.1 kg, so if you read 50.12 by ruling more lines in, that will not mean anything
