It is extremely rare for the worm to effect the human that eats it. For one the worm i killed if the fish is even semi cooked. For another thing the human intestine is a harsh place that most parasites can not thrive in. People eat the Cod worm all the time without realizing it and never get sick. Many times if you catch the fish yourself and allow it to rest on the counter before cooking the worm will remove itself. The fish is fine to eat either way as long as you cook it past 140 degrees which you should anyway unless it is sushi grade and in that case there would rarely be a worm.
