Grass does like a plentiful supply of water, as long as the ground is free draining and not prone to water lodging. But if you are wondering whether rain water is preferable to mains tap water, then I would have to say yes. Although I have watered many, many different and varied lawns with tap water with no detrimental effect, rain water does have 3 extra benifits. 1. Due to atmerspheric pollution rain water is usually slightly acidic which lawn grasses prefer, as opposed to tap water which is often slightly alkaline. 2. It is usually at a more ambient temperature than tap water (especially if it is from a stored source above ground) and is therefore less likely to shock plants, grasses included. 3 It's more economical and enviromentally sound, your grass will grow stronger knowing that it is being husbanded in a more sustainable way.... maybe!
