It certainly can. Paper and plastic do not insulate magnetic forces. If they are thick enough and the magnet is not very powerful, they could prevent it. But most plastic sheets or containers aren't going to be thick enough to keep them from reaching the nail.

A magnet can be used in the generation of electricity. A magnet that rotates inside a coil of copper wire will create an electrical current in that wire. This is the exact principle used in electric generators.

no it doesnt conduct electricity

the person who gave the upper answer did not understand the question, because in the question generation of electricity is talking about not the conduction. we can generate the electricity by burning the wood. simply when the wood will burn some gases will produce.use the gases in order to rotate the impeller of the turbine.this causes electromagnetic induction which will induce EMF. However the pressure of the gases is not much higher, therefore the electricity produce will be negligible for more inf(fahim.ch01@gmail.com)

No.

only if the wood contains traces of iron/ferrous metal then you might be able to induce a field around the piece of wood

yes as magnetic lines of force can easily pass through a non-magnetic substance.

However it depends on the thickness of the non-magnetic substance and on the strength of the magnet.

Yes as long as it's not really thick and the magnet is strong enough

Yes. More precisely, a conductor (wire) must move relative to the magnet. This is how electricity is produced industrially.

Does electricity flow through the magnet?

Magnets are conductors of electricity. If the magnets are made of a metal alloy, such as samarium cobalt, they become excellent conductors of electricity.

Who was the first man to make electricity from magnets?

Michael Faraday was the first one who observed the production of electricity by moving magnets towards a coil of wire. This phenomenon is known as electromagnetic induction.

What are facts about magnets that kids would like to know?

Kids might like to know that magnets have two poles (North and South), that opposite poles attract, that magnets attract certain metals but not all, and that magnets are used in the creation of electricity.
