Well that depends... There are some jobs that require you to be certified in CPR. You do not need to be certified to perform CPR. If there is not a certified rescuer in the immediate vicinity, you may perform CPR. 911 operators now instruct callers on how to perform a rough version of CPR. If you do find yourself in a situation where someone needs resuscitation, call for help quickly. Call 911 and begin CPR. Check the Good Samaritan Laws in your area.

No, there is not a law that you must know CPR to babysit in Oklahoma. It is recommended, however, that you take a babysitting class, which will include CPR. More and more parents will require that a babysitter have the babysitting class before babysitting their child. The American Red Cross offers an excellent babysitting class.

It's not usually a forced requirement, but it is always safer to have a babysitter in charge who can perform CPR, if anything happens. Most parents prefer to have a babysitter who knows basic CPR.

You should be certified to do CPR on someone. You are required to know what you are doing to help a person who is not breathing. If you are interested in getting certified, you should take some classes. Perhaps contact your doctor. Some schools though, teach CPR in middle school health class and you can get certified. But you do have to get the certification renewed every few years; unless of course you are in the medical profession I think.

You will need to check the requirements of the state you are babysitting in. You may need to (and you should) take an actual babysitting class which covers more about infants and children specifically than you receive in first aid and CPR.

CPR certifications are not required to babysit but many parents will feel much safer if they know that the sitter has some background of medical training.
