Its not very common but yes, my wife missed a period and called to the doctors, after examining her he said she was 4 month pregnant or having twins, after going for a scan it turned out she was 4 month pregnant even though she had 3 regular periods beforehand.

some say it is because you dont really gain weight during the pregnancy or not much your stomach for some reason does not protrude as much, another could be you think you're having your period but instead it is blood from the uterus leaking out... there can be many reasons why but really why don't you just use protection or something unless you are actually ready... cause honestly it's hard to not know if you are pregnant.
