Generally speaking, yes. You will probably have to turn the laptop on at the security check point in the airport so that security can verify that it's really a laptop and not, say, 5 pounds of C-4 shaped like a laptop. Note that you will be told to turn off "all electronic devices" ... which includes laptops ... at certain times during the flight (normally a few minutes before takeoff and landing).
