You can't change the tires ONLY, as 29er tires wouldn't fit on a 26" rim.

If it's a disc brake bike, you MAY be able to fit 29er wheels in a frame/fork that originally came with 26" wheels though.

But you'll have to check how much clearance you have at the fork crown, down by the chain stays and by the seat stays. A 29er wheel will have the tire running about 2 1/2 " higher in the fork, higher between the seat stays and closer to the bottom bracket.

If you've got the space for that,(remember to check with the suspension compressed) then you may attempt the switch.

The bike will ride a bit higher, be slower off the mark, wheels will be weaker/flexier and you'll basically lose your 1-2 lowest gears.

If the only bike riding you do is on packed dirt or pavement is there any reason for you to buy a mountain bike instead of a road bike?

I would think not. A normal bike has thinner wheels. It is lighter and provides less friction. It is easier to pedal forward. A Mountain Bike is however very sturdy. If you are much over weight, then a mountain bike would probably be a better choice. A road bike has narrow tires with minimal tread, while mountain bikes have large knobby ones. Road bikes are used by the stereotypical "cyclist", such as Lance Armstrong. Mountain bikes often have suspension, and are rugged and strong enough to hold up for jumps, bumps and drops. A "true" road bike really isn't that useful for everyday purposes. The drop bar gives a very hunched over posture which takes some getting used to. And won't really do you much good until you hit speeds of 20-25 MPH. The thin tires are prone to flats and will be quite nervous on dirt surfaces. For casual, everyday riding a hybrid is a much better choice. It'll have a more upright riding position, tires that are wide enough to be a bit rugged, yet narrow enough to roll a lot easier than wide knobblies. If it hasn't from the start, hybrids can use fenders, have a rack fitted ASO. Or if you have the money and the dedication - get a cyclocross bike. It'll only be a tiny bit slower than a road bike on pavement, but it can use tires wide enough to do well on dirt and even snow.

Why do bike tires need more air in summer?

Tires leak a little over time, so if you haven't ridden during winter you will need to inflate them in spring to compensate for what's been lost over winter.

Where was the dorado sherpa mountain bike made?

I purchased a Dorado Sherpa mountain bike from a shop in Mill Valley (Marin County), California in January 1989 for about $400 and it is still in good shape - my wife rode it today, over 20 years later. It was a small bike shop so I assume that the bike was made right there in Mill Valley.

Why is a mountain bike designed to be heavier than a road bike?

Because a MTB is expected to get ridden over bumpy ground and even jumped every now and then. It needs to be stronger to stand up to that. Road bikes aren't expected to encounter that kind of riding, so they can be made more flimsy and lighter.
