First, take note that copying a DVD may break certain copyright laws depending on country and your use of the copy.

Keep in mind that a number of movies are placed on dual-layer discs or DVD-9s that may only be copied by utilizing a dual-layer recordable drive. If you want to fit the DVD on a single-layer recordable DVD, this may be done with certain copying software that will recompress the material but don't expect that the quality of the video will be the same.

By just copying the files from a DVD to a recordable DVD disc, you will probably end up with a disc that will not play on a regular DVD player. This is because the files must be set in a particular order and in particular areas on the disc. There is some DVD writing software that can accomplish this task but there is software that can not. So do not expect that you can simply copy the .VOB and .IFO files.

There are a number of programs available that utilize a single recordable DVD drive in order to copy a whole disc. For a step-by-step guide on how to copy 1:1 DVD to a blank DVDR click here.

If you are interested in just copying the audio of a DVD disc read on:

In order to take just the audio from a DVD you need to make use of a DVD ripping tool. This DVD ripping tool will enable you to rip or extract the needed audio files from the DVD. After which you must utilize a utility in order to convert the audio files into MP3 or another format, or to burn the audio onto a CD.

Another option you may use is connecting an audio recorder to the audio output of a DVD player.

What about extracting video?

There are software utilities which may not only extract audio but also video from a disc in order to create a new disc. Another option is to connect your DVD player to a DVD video recorder, but you may encounter problems with this alternative in cases where the recorder detects signals from the DVD player which may stop it from recording. Still, there are also types of DVD Authoring Software which can primarily import video from DVD discs which are unprotected.

Yes and No . If you purchased the DVD you can legally make a copy of it for your own use in the event that the original is destroyed/lost.

If you are making a copy to give to someone else, then that is illegal. If you are making a copy to sell, you are going to get a $250,000 fine and time in an orange jump suit.

Yes, but doing so is rather difficult. You need dual layered disks, for one thing, and they are really expensive. You also need a burning program that supports dual layered disks - Nero 6 does. And finally, you need a DVD drive that supports dual layered disks. Look on your drive. If it will burn DVDs at all it will have a large RW in a box, with some small writing underneath. If the writing says DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL, then the drive will burn dual layered disks.

What is a DVD drive?

A DVD drive is an input device. A DVD or DVD-ROM disc can be read by the DVD drive. A DVD or DVD-ROM is a disc capable of storing large amounts of data on one disc the size of a standard Compact Disc.

Describe the difference between DVD-r and DVD-rom?

DVD-r is basically an untouched disc..... completely empty or not completely filled but has permission for writing data into it..... DVD-ROM is a finalized disc. No data can be written to it. It can only be read not written to.

What is the meaning of dvdrom?

DVD = Digital Video Disc ROM = Read Only Memory A DVD ROM disk or disc (spell it either way if fine) is a digital video disc that can only be read versus a DVD-R(ecordable) disc that can be written to or recorded to. ROM discs only can be read and the READ ONLY tells you just that. MEMORY just means the data that is stored on the disc.

How do you download a DVD to your computer so you can re burn it on to another DVD?

I think you may need a DVD copy to copy the DVD to another DVD disc. You could not "download" a DVD to your computer, but you could rip it to other video or movie files then burn it to another DVD disc.
