If you are having a non-contrast study, that you can eat till your heart's content any time before the procedure.
If you are having a contrast enhanced study, then generally it would be best to not have eaten for at least 2 hours. This is more of just a precaution. In an emergency situation, your prior eating will have no effect of the quality of the scan. The reason you are asked not to eat anything prior to a contrast enhanced study is to minimize the possible nausea that you might experience if food is in your stomach during the contrast injection.
