he words "beautiful" and "handsome" are both used to describe attractive people, but they have slightly different connotations.

Beautiful is generally used to describe women and girls. It suggests a delicate, feminine attractiveness. It often conveys a sense of grace, charm, and refinement. For example, you might say that a woman with a symmetrical face, large eyes, and full lips is beautiful.

Handsome is generally used to describe men and boys. It suggests a more rugged, masculine attractiveness. It often conveys a sense of strength, virility, and confidence. For example, you might say that a man with a strong jawline, broad shoulders, and deep-set eyes is handsome.

Of course, these are just general guidelines, and there are many exceptions. For example, you might say that a very feminine man is beautiful, or a very masculine woman is handsome. Ultimately, the best way to use these words is to simply choose the one that you think best describes the person you are talking about.

You can say 'beautiful' to a man depending on what the subject is. Example: Isn't that swan the most beautiful creature you have ever seen.' However, if you are complimenting a man you would call him attractive or handsome or a knock out. You could tell him you think he has a beautiful spirit or soul and that is acceptable.

Why do you never call a woman 'handsome'?

Because that word is for men onley I'm sorry but I don't really agree with the answer above. The word 'handsome' is usually a term used to describe a mans good looks, but that does not mean a woman could not be handsome. Many women do not like to be called handsome because they think it is a 'man-word'. Some women have more testosterone than others, therefore giving them more of a manly look, therefore (again) making them handsome. A man could also be described as pretty or beautiful, though this is not as common. I can come up with one example of this, Adam Lambert is pretty, not handsome. You tend to describe gay men as 'pretty' and that's why a pregnant woman tends to call her baby 'beautiful' and not 'pretty'
